This is PurpleAuction –  an online auction in support of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of Canada.  The auction is scheduled to go on throughout the summer of 2011.  So far items include paintings, jewellery, a weekend at the cottage, spa visits, and more.

Item #19 -- Hand-crafted Pottery Platter

Beautiful platter created and donated by Joyce Pagurek, an Ottawa potter and artist.  This piece, "Autumn Leaves," comes from her leaf collection of dishes.  Approximate size: 10 in. x 14 in.  Glaze is food-safe.

Joyce is a member of the Ottawa Guild of Potters.  She has been creating and selling her pottery for more than 10 years.

The Legend of Kicking Horse Coffee

In the summer of 1858, James Hector set out to discover the Kicking Horse Valley.  His expedition took him through some of the most beautiful and rugged country in the West.  During a river crossing, one of the pack horses kicked Hector so hard that others in the expedition mistook him for dead.  As they began to bury poor old James, they noticed his eye twitch.  The legend says it was a stiff cup of Kick Ass coffee that brought him back to life !
